Wayu is a research initiative. We publish what we learn and what we build so that others can use it, check it, and build on it. These terms explain what that means for you when you use this site.
Who we are
Wayu Research (“Wayu”, “we”, “us”) is a non-profit AI research initiative based in Bangkok, Thailand. We are not a registered company or foundation; we are a group of researchers working under a shared name. We operate the website at wayuresearch.org (the “Site”).
Acceptance and scope
By using the Site you agree to these Terms of Use (the “Terms”). If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
These Terms govern the Site only. The research artifacts we release — models, datasets, code, evaluation suites and papers — are published on Hugging Face, GitHub and similar platforms, and each one carries its own licence (for example Apache-2.0, CC BY-NC 4.0 or ODC-By). That licence, together with the hosting platform’s own terms, governs your use of the artifact. If these Terms conflict with an artifact’s licence, the licence controls for that artifact.
Where an artifact’s licence or model card refers to these Terms, the Acceptable use section below also applies to your use of that artifact and of anything you generate with it, and by downloading or using the artifact you accept it.
Research purpose; no advice
Everything we publish — on the Site and elsewhere — is research output. It is experimental, it may be incomplete or wrong, and it is offered for informational, educational and research purposes.
Our models predict; they do not know. A language model produces the words most likely to come next, and a speech or vision model the most likely reading of a recording or an image. Each can be confidently wrong: it can state things that are false, invent names, numbers or sources (“hallucinate”), misread, mis-transcribe or mispronounce. Nothing a model produces is a verified fact. Check output before you rely on it or pass it on.
Nothing we publish is professional, legal, medical, financial or safety advice, and nothing is designed for production use or for any setting where an error could cause harm. You are solely responsible for deciding whether anything of ours is fit for your purpose, for testing it, and for complying with the laws that apply to your use — including data-protection, intellectual-property and export-control rules.
Research artifacts
Our models, datasets, code and benchmarks are provided as they are. In particular:
- Models may produce output that is inaccurate, biased, offensive or otherwise unsuitable. You are responsible for how you use them and for what they produce for you.
- We claim no rights in what you generate with our models. Output may not be unique — someone else may get the same or similar output — and it is up to you to check that your use of it does not infringe anyone’s rights.
- Datasets may contain errors, and may describe or point to material we do not own or control. Our Common Crawl index, for example, records where Thai pages sit inside Common Crawl’s archives; the pages themselves were written by others and are not ours.
- We may change, withdraw or stop maintaining any artifact at any time, and we have no obligation to support, update or keep publishing it.
Acceptable use
We release our models so that people can study them and build good things with them. You agree not to use the Site, our artifacts, or anything generated with them — including synthetic speech, text or images — to:
- impersonate any person, including by producing synthetic speech that resembles a real person’s voice, without that person’s verifiable consent;
- deceive, defraud or mislead others, including by presenting generated audio, text or images as an authentic recording or as a person’s own work;
- create or distribute unlawful content, including content that is defamatory, harassing or threatening, or that sexualises or exploits minors;
- violate other people’s rights, including their privacy, or any applicable law or regulation — including Thai law such as the Computer Crime Act B.E. 2550 (2007) and the Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (2019);
- make a decision with legal or similarly significant effects on a person — about credit, employment, insurance, housing, education, healthcare, immigration or law enforcement, for example — on the sole basis of our models or their output, or deploy them in a safety-critical system;
- probe, disrupt, overload or gain unauthorised access to the Site, or access it by automated means at a rate that burdens it;
- claim that Wayu is affiliated with you, or endorses you or your work, when it does not;
- do anything else that we reasonably consider abusive, or harmful to others or to us.
An artifact’s licence may add conditions of its own. Where it does, both apply.
Intellectual property
The text, design, illustrations and logo on the Site belong to Wayu Research. You may quote brief passages with attribution. Our artifacts carry their own licences, as described above.
Hugging Face, GitHub, Common Crawl, Typhoon and the other names that appear on the Site belong to their respective owners and are used only to identify them.
Third-party sites and services
The Site links to services we do not run — Hugging Face and GitHub among them. We do not control those services and are not responsible for their content, availability, terms or privacy practices. Following a link is at your own discretion.
Disclaimer of warranties
THE SITE AND EVERY ARTIFACT WE PUBLISH ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY OR AVAILABILITY, AND ANY WARRANTY THAT THE SITE OR OUR ARTIFACTS WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE OR FREE OF ERRORS.
Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WAYU AND ITS MEMBERS, CONTRIBUTORS AND COLLABORATORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, REVENUE OR GOODWILL, OR FOR THE COST OF SUBSTITUTE GOODS OR SERVICES, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SITE OR ANY ARTIFACT, ON ANY LEGAL THEORY, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT SUCH DAMAGES ARE POSSIBLE.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY DIRECT DAMAGES WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU HAVE PAID US TO USE THE SITE, WHICH IS NOTHING.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranties or liabilities to be excluded. Where that is the case, our liability is limited to the greatest extent the law allows.
Indemnification
You agree to defend and indemnify Wayu and its members, contributors and collaborators against any claim, loss or expense — including reasonable legal fees — that arises from your use of the Site or of our artifacts, or from your breach of these Terms.
Feedback and contributions
If you send us feedback, suggestions or ideas, we may use them freely and without any obligation to you. Contributions you make to one of our repositories or datasets are made under that repository’s or dataset’s licence.
Changes to these Terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page tells you when they last changed. Continuing to use the Site after a change means you accept the revised Terms.
Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Kingdom of Thailand, and any dispute arising from them or from the Site will be brought before the courts of Bangkok, Thailand — without prejudice to any protection that the mandatory law of the place where you live gives you and that cannot be excluded by agreement.
Wayu is a small non-profit research initiative. We publish in good faith and have no intention of infringing anyone’s rights — copyright, privacy, trademark or anything else. If you believe something we have published does, please write to us at hello@wayuresearch.org before starting any formal proceeding and tell us what it is and where to find it. We will look into it promptly and, where the concern is well founded, correct or remove it. Most questions are settled that way, by email.
General
If any part of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest remains in force. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign your rights or obligations under these Terms. Together with the licence of each artifact, these Terms are the whole agreement between you and us about the Site.
